EXCITING NEW TRAILER FOR J.J. ABRAMS' "SUPER 8"! GUILLERMO DEL TORO TO DIRECT $100 MILLION EPIC "JOURNEY TO THE WEST". ROBERT LUKETIC DIRECTS "BRILLIANT"

Now, here's an interesting West meets East production: famous writer Neil Gaiman will adapt the classic Chinese novel JOURNEY TO THE WEST and Guillermo del Toro might direct the script into a $100 million blockbuster which is supposed to be the first in a trilogy and will probably have James Cameron as a technical consultant. The story will follow The Monkey King, who is accompanied by a Chinese monk, a pig spirit and a fish spirit, to India where he seeks out the ancient texts of Buddha for enlightenment. The film will be shot in China in English with both Western and Asian actors.

I know many of you don't like his work, but I kinda love director Robert Luketic (his movies aren't master pieces, but are usually fun and charming LEGALLY BLOND, KILLERS, THE UGLY TRUTH ). The young Australian/Croatian film maker is now set to direct BRILLIANT, which will center on a small-time criminal who joins accomplished thieves in a diamond heist. According to "MovieWeb" the movie was supposed to be shot three years ago too, with Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johannson and Michael Caine in the cast.

Today, you can check out an exciting new trailer for J.J. Abrams' upcoming epic thriller SUPER 8, which premieres this June. Starring Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning, the film is set in the summer of 1979,  when a group of kids in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

  2. Super 8 looks fantastic, but I hope I'm not disappointed like I was with Cloverfield. And I can't wait to here more about Journey to the West, it sounds epic.

    I like Robert Luketic films as well. There is a charm to them that I enjoy. I own Legally Blonde :)

  9. Okay so "Super 8" looks pretty awesome!! Really excited for that one and I love that Elle Fanning is in it. I think she is a future star. The poster was honestly good enough for me but the trailer just sweetened the deal. Can't wait! As for "Brilliant" I would love to watch that as long as Matthew McConaughey isn't a part of it, eck. Great post!!

    glad you like it, Leigh :)

    @Melsy
    yep, SUPER 8 will either be great or just bad, it's one of those films ... Who could resist LEGALLY BLOND (first part), it's just one of those feel good easy flicks :)

    @Alex
    it seems most film goers share that opinion.

    I hope you managed to get in contact with your family and that they are all fine. My country also had an earthquake this winter and it was also a shock for our nation, especially since it happened in the middle of winter and plus my country is poor and doesn't have money to quickly rebuilt the destroyed houses.

    @Nicole
    glad you like it, Nicole :)

    @Jaccsy
    I was surprised by it as well, Jaccsy, since I know the new Chinese version will be released next year, and plus there already was a TV mini series based on the same legend a few years ago in USA

    I've noticed that all the fanboys are super excited about it :)

    @Arlee
    yep, it has a retro vibe, not just because it's set in the 70's but the whole atmosphere is similar to classic Spielberg movies.

    @Nicole
    he he ..I believe McConaughey won't play in it, he was supposed to do it earlier with the previous attempt to shoot the movie :)

  16. Del Toro should stick to getting PACIFIC RIM out before announcing any new plans. That guy is more famous for the films he hasn't made than the ones he has.

  17. @Ella
    be welcome, glad you liked it :)

    @Movies
    it's true, he has more films announced than shot in his entire career :) But apparently PACIFIC RIM really is his next project.

  18. Totally intrigued by THE MONKEY KING. Can't quite picture it... but, huh. Could be cool. Saw an arty (very much not filmy) stage play based on TMK.

  19. well, there was some TV mini series based on it a few years ago, so you could check that out while waiting for the film :)

  23. Y'know, that Super 8 trailer does look intriguing. I'll wait for the reviews before venturing out into the cinema though. Hope the film lives up to the trailer.

  24. I agree with your plan, Flixy totally :)

  25. Super 8 looks good enough, but it doesn't bring anything new or anything interesting to me personally. Regular story, genre and look, but with a name of J.J. Abrams behind it.
    Still, it could be good, for those who like that genre.

    Brilliant could be interesting. I usually don't watch films about criminals, but if it is a comedy...

    Journey to the West is still only in talks. But I would like to see that story on big screen.

  26. I have a feeling they were going for a classic film with children as heroes in some big chaotic event.
