A MYSTERIOUS NEW IMAGE SUGGESTS THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF THE CULT SF SHOW "FIREFLY"

The news that caused millions of geekgasms around the Net today is connected with the mysterious new image that Nathan Fillion published on his Twitter yesterday. The image shows Nathan with his former colleagues Joss Whedon, Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk, all from the cult and prematurely murdered sf TV show "Firefly" suggesting some kind of reunion. They are all mysteriously looking up at the sky as if they are waiting for some miraculous power to come down to Earth and bring the show to life again. Does this mean that "Firefly's" movie version "Serenity" might get a sequel or will the show start shooting again in some new form???
As you know, "Firefly" was a short-lived but eternally loved sf show which was canceled in the middle of the first season, but after that it gained an abnormal mass of fans all around the world and now it has a whole cult of fans similar to the supporters of "Star Trek" and "Star Wars". "Firefly" was set five hundred years in the future following a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft which was trying to survive as they traveled the unknown parts of the galaxy and evaded warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them. Most of the actors Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin ... have continued successful TV careers after "Firefly".

  1. As a major Firefly fan I'd love for that to be true, but I won't hold my breath waiting. "Serenity"'s relatively poor box-office meant that there wasn't much chance of a sequel, and I can't imagine any TV network picking up a series that's perceived as "failed", especially after Whedon's Dollhouse was also canned. And, of course, ( Spoiler Alert! ) Alan Tudyk's character was killed off in the movie, so his participation would be limited to flashbacks only. Ah, but if it were true.....

  2. yep, I know that Tudyk died in the film, and the film was not received well in the cinemas, but that was all a long time ago, when the fan base wasn't so big and before the FIREFLY became some kind of the underground cult and urban legend :)

    I heard some talks about them possibly making a new prequel show on FIREFLY. Off course, these are all just speculations, but fan speculations :)

  3. Saw that image on SciFi Wire - very exciting!! We can only hope it's another movie or that they are bringing back the series.

  4. What??? You are reading SciFi Wire before Hollywood Spy??? I'm deeply hurt :))))))

  5. Any show featuring Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, and Morena Baccarin together should never be canceled. My only theory is that their combined geek sex appeal created a vortex at the studio, and the show had to be canceled for the safety of everyone.

    Besides Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk deserve awards for the most awesome film stars people don't recognize.

  6. your theory should really be investigated, Univarn, there might be a lot of truth in it.

    The interesting thing is that more people recognise Nathan from DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES than from FIREFLY :)

  7. this would be A Good Thing. Joss Wheedon is too absent from our lives at the moment.

  8. It would be good if it happens :)

  9. That would be awesome, heck, I would settle for a Jayne spinoff or kaylee web show.

  10. Hey Dezmond,

    I have to admit I know Joss Wheedon & the Baldwin name, but I'm sadly clueless to the rest of it otherwise *smacks and shakes head in despair*. I came over to say HI. I noticed you changed Wentworth Miller's picture. Very nice!!!!!!

    or an Inara space opera :))

    @RaShelle
    you've probably seen the girls somewhere as well, but didn't know their names :)
    I didn't change the poll picture, just adjusted the dimensions to fit the new sidebar :) But I like that you call it a Wentworth pic :)))

  12. Never saw Firefly but I did purchase the Serenity DVD and saw it, but I don't really remember much about it. I need to watch it a second time I guess since it gets such a high rating from so many people.

  13. A movie maybe, a TV show, doubtful. Adam Baldwin's already got a successful TV gig with NBC's CHUCK.

  14. How is it I've never heard of Firefly? The idea sounds cool, though.

    oh, you really must watch the show first before you watch the movie, because SERENITY ties directly to FIREFLY. My brother never watched the show and he didn't get anything in the movie. The movie kinda brings closure for the characters from the show.

    @Answer
    yep, and Fillion has CASTLE, Morena has V, Jewel also has something ...

    @Julie
    well, it did last for just 15 episodes or something like that :)

  16. I was a serious fan of Firefly, wasn't as thrilled about the movie but was willing to take what I could get of Wheedon. Not to burst the bubbles of fellow fans but I seriously doubt they could pull off another Firefly. Besides possible continuity issues with Serenity and a recovery of Firefly, major characters have other commitments. That said, I'd love it if Wheedon made a comeback. Hell, I even miss Dollhouse.

  17. I've heard about this show... I should look into renting the DVDs. It's amazing how quickly shows get canned these days. I'm afraid to get into any new series, because I know it will just get taken away from me, and the stupid hospital and lawyer shows will continue to take over the planet.

  18. The wife and I spent 4th of July weekend re-watching the entire series and capping it off with Serenity. Although I LOVE re-visiting the awesomeness of the show...I get angry everytime at the stupidity of FOX.

    I doubt that a sequel to Serenity is in the offering because of the death of two KEY characters, but I wouldn't put anything past Whedon and I'll be on-board with anything they come up with!!

    yep, these are all just speculations, but as I said they could always do some kind of prequel.

    @Kristin
    and don't forget the stupid police shows.

    @DL Hammons
    yep, FIREFLY and ROME are two shows that should not have been canceled. I'm hoping for any kind of sf space show to appear on TV.

    Hmmm... actors would look significantly older but here's to hoping. =)

  21. yep, hope is the only thing we have :))

  22. I say it's about time! Hope this is true indeed. I'm sure the cast members would welcome the idea for the movie, but not a TV show as a lot of them already branched out into other things.

  23. !!! I hadn't heard this!!!
    *crosses fingers, and spins thrice*

  24. @Flixy
    or maybe they'll do a mini series for TV?

    @Aspiring x
    I'm spinning as well :)

  26. it'd be way cool to see the show come back in some form or other. I never caught it on original broadcasts (I'm not a cable/satellite/etc guy) but I caught some episodes on Hulu and watched them all one it hit DVD.

    Tons of fun.

  27. glad you like it, Okie, I also caught the show later on during some reruns :)
