"VOGUE'S" AMAZING COVER WITH "NINE'S" LADIES NICOLE KIDMAN, KATE HUDSON, MARION COTILLARD AND PENELOPE CRUZ

November issue of "Vogue" has the girls from the upcoming musicle "Nine" on its cover. Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz are gracing the cover of the popular magazine. Together with movie legends Judi Dench and Sophia Loren, pop star Fergie and Daniel Day Lewis they star in the longly awaited musical directed by Rob Marshall. With so many leading ladies, this movie needed a lot of stunning costumes, so Oscar award winning designer Colleen Atwood ("Memoirs of a Geisha", "Gattaca", "Chicago", "Planet of the Apes") had created couture-like fashions that date back to the ’20s. The ladies will sing and dance in 350 costumes and 200 pairs of shoes using a lot of frills, satin, lace, sexy pants and floating dresses combined with unavoidable ostrich feather fans.
The movie tells the story of Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), a world famous famous film director as he confronts an epic mid-life crisis with both creative and personal problems. He must balance the many women of his life, including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren).

  1. That's really impressive work on a part of costume design and creating (sawing and the rest...) :)
I look forward to seeing it on screen, as everything else about this movie of course. :)

  2. Me to, I can't wait to see Judi Dench and her young colleagues working together. The only problem for me, is the director, I didn't like any of Marshall's previous projects. CHICAGO was a really boring movie, and it looked more like a theatrical than cinematical project. And GEISHA was visually beautiful, but didn't have soul, that special something, so it turned out to be quite cold.

  3. Chicago was OK for me, although it seem "weird" at some moments. Most musicals seem a little weird at some moments to me. :)

Geisha on the outer hand, seemed like a straightforward (school book kind) film direction to me. No weird or out of place stuff. And it was visually beautiful. I only wish that type of story had been more to my kind.

I think we should reference (expect) more from Marshall's direction of Chicago than from his work on Geisha. After all, Chicago and Nine share the same genre.

  4. That's exactly the reason for my skepticism: the fact that he lacks directorial vision in making musicals.

  5. He has directorial vision in making musicals. :)Success (and awards) of his Chicago prove that.
It's a totally different thing that you Dez don't like his vision at at all, or that I find his Chicago a little weird. Different men, different tastes... You didn't like Mamma Mia at all (I on the other hand did like it), and that movie was also a great success.
As in everything else, majority decides on what's likeable (in general terms). :)

  6. I do not agree, he did get Oscar acclaim for CHICAGO, but that's because American's like that musical so much, it's been extremely successful over at Broadway. A lot of other movie experts outside USA, consider that movie cold and monotonous without some special personal touch.
The only positive parts of that movie were Zeta's and Latifah's performances.

I never said I didn't like MAMMA MIA "at all". I didn't like the plot and direction. I liked most of the actors, sets and songs. However, again most critics shared my judgment on that movie considering it a bit too shallow plotwise and a bit too "visionless".

Funny how you use the last sentence of your post only when it suits your argument, Belsy :PPPP

  7. Again you think "your circles" are in majority instead of mine. And again I find your sources insignificant. :)
Funny how you consider negative opinions of some movie critics worthy only when it suits you. :)) It's a well known fact that their opinions are mostly on a negative side. Especially with some genres, like comedies, horrors, and musicals.
Chicago got (critics) awards/recognition in USA. And those are the only critics that really matter. Again, it's a well known fact that musical genre is recognised, filmed, (and loved) almost entirely in USA. And India, but that's a little different. Same as let say... SF genre.
It is really simple for me - if you don't make films in that genre, you have no authority to criticise them. :))
And really Dez, what's your point in seeking strong plot, "vision" (whatever that may be in any particular case), in things like musicals? It's really a moot point. Majority of viewers seek no such things in musicals. At least not with a same fervor as in some other, more serious film genres. Trying to get a critics opinion is pretty much useless, especially when you known how they treat particular genres.

  8. You should finally sit down and watch MOULIN ROUGE and then you would know what a good musical, with warm story and stunning directorial vision is :)

Cak naprotiv. Mislim da si ti jednostavno osoba koja ce uvek voditi raspravu just for the sake of the argument.

  13. blago tebi, ja igrice nisam igrao bar jedno deset godina.

    ReplyDelete
